Obituary for John E. Toney:
John E. Toney
Former Boone Man
Dead in California
(TMR-Friday, Jan. 27, 1933)
Among the obituaries appearing in the Charleston Gazette, was one stating that word was received on Wednesday of the death of John E. Toney, at Colusa, California.
Mr. Toney was a former resident of Racine and was a deputy sheriff under E. D. Stollings for a four year term. He left for California about 25 years ago, where he resided until his death. He was 81 years of age.
Surviving are the widow, one daughter, Mrs. W. T. Harless of Bownemont and six sons, T.E. and Hugh Toney of Lodi, Calif.; Harvey and Emsy Toney of Colusa.
Truman Toney of Comfort and Harry R. Toney of Charleston. In addition 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren and several more distant relatives survive.
Mr. Toney was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and the following fraternal bodies: Masons, Knights of Pythias, Odd Fellows and Senior Order of United American Mechanics. No information was received on funeral arrangements.
[Donna Forney Clark: I believe T. E. Toney is Poindexter E. Toney and that Truman Toney is Thurmon Toney.]
