Names, dates, places, & obituary:
Mrs. Mary Ann Bankson died at her home at 326 Ridge Street on Sunday evening at 10:35 o'clock. The direct cause of her death was the resulting shock from the horrible death of her son, D.W. Bankson, who was killed by falling from the third story of the building at 808 main street last Wednesday afternoon. Being eighty years of age and very feeble, the shock practically destroyed all her physical strength and she gradually weakened and died.
She was born in County Clair, Ireland, June 15, 1820, and came to this country when about six years old with an uncle. They settled in Pennsylvania, later they moved to Illinois, locating at Warsaw. From there they moved to Alexandria, Mo., and in 1857 she came to Kukuk, where she has since resided.
She was married in 1839, while in Cleveland, Ohio, to D. W. Bankson. He died in Warsaw, IL, in 1856. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. E. J. Hawkes, of the city, and three sons J. P. Bankson, of this city, J.W. Bankson of New York, and J.R. Bankson of San Francisco. Her only other child, D.W. Bankson, was the man who was killed at 808 Main Street last Wednesday.
The funeral will occur on Wednesday morning at 9 O'clock from St. Peter's Catholic cemetery. (Source : October 2, 1900, Daily Gate City, p. 7 col. 3.)
