Information contained in the Archives from Cindy Howser: Zoah, located about three miles northwest of Scottsburg was a comparatively new settlement in the county. In 1836, Warren Meranda (1807-1847), Clark Reynolds (1801-1863) and Martin Comer bought land where the church and cemetery now are located. Some time between 1837 and 1842 a log school was built on the knoll overlooking Ox Valley to the west. The present day church is very prosperous and the cemetery is actively in use. The church was built in 1889, and remodeled and added to in 1943-44. (from 1990 cemetery book). Many Coatneys and Spurgeons are buried in Zoah Cemetery including Benjamin Harrison Coatney (1865-1925); Hester Magnolia "Hattie" Morgan Coatney (1866-1937); Charles Augustus "Gus" Coatney (1887-1913); George Francis Coatney (1900-1922); George Washington Coatney (1831-1871); Arminda Bernard Spurgeon Coatney (1839-1924); Gracie Ethel Coatney (1884-1902); Thomas Jefferson Coatney (1857-1934); Zephaniah Spurgeon (1806-1877); & Marinda Close Spurgeon.

Kidd organized and compiled the combined three book edition of Skeels Family History 1720-1980. Part of the earlier books were set in type at South Side Press by Wayne Favinger, aged 15 yrs.

Residence photo of the Shiverdecker Homestead in Poca, Putnam County, WV, was provided by Rennie Cartwright, who kindly showed us around his property in Putnam Co., WV, in August 2000. His property is the former Shiverdecker homestead owned by Michael Shivertaker & Abigail Elizabeth "Abby" Higginbotham Shivertaker. Mr. Cartwright later wrote us that he and his father painted the house in the mid-1940's. Mr. Cartwright's grandmother told him there used to be a breezeway that went right through the middle of the house with a room upstairs over top of the breezeway. In later years, it was enclosed and 3 rooms were built on the back. Mr. Cartwright's daughter had the home put on the Historical Registry in Putnam County, WV. The old house burned down sometime between 1991-1995 due to arson. The electricity had been turned off years before the fire destroyed it.

Farm/ Residence/ Group/ Water/ Pier photo of the MacDonell Plantation in Lake Arthur, LA, was taken in 1951, and came from the MacDonell/ Clark/ Peterson Collection by Kent Peterson. John Angus "Rice King" MacDonell & Frances "Aunt Frank" MacDonald MacDonell owned and operated the MacDonell Plantation which was built in 1855 by John Revlon, a wealthy Creole from New Orleans, LA. (See source notes for John Angus "Rice King" MacDonell.) The MacDonell Plantation was famous for production of rice, cotton, citrus fruit, and live stock. It was the site of many MacDonell family reunions. Also, the John Sayles' movie "Passion Fish" was filmed on site in 1992.

John Joseph Cockerill received a quick claim on these 160 acres on March 12, 1887 for 1 dollar. Legally the property is known as the east half of the southwest quarter and west half of the southeast quarter, all in section one (1), Township (13), Range (10) in Sarpy, County, NE. (A section is one square mile, which is 640 acres.) The property is located a couple miles Southeast of downtown Gretna.” From Mary Catherine "Casey" Schram Cockerill: The house was torn down in 2012.
