In 1881 Paul John, Sr., bought The McGrath Hotel, which by that time had been renamed the American Hotel, located at the corner of Queen and Second Street. This he named the FRANKLIN HOUSE. In 1892 he remodeled it and named it the HOTEL JOHN.
