Orren Kemp, 94, of Le Mars died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.
Louis Orren Kemp was born on Jan. 16, 1910, in Windom, Minn., the son of Louis and Effie (Van Dusen) Kemp. He grew up in the Remsen, Iowa area and attended country schools and Le Mars Central High School. As a young man, he worked on the family farms.
Orren was united in marriage to Leona Christopherson on July 26, 1934, in Remsen. He attended school for diesel engineering in California and later returned to Remsen to work as a hired hand on various farms in Plymouth and Cherokee Counties. He moved his family to Marcus, Iowa, where he began working for Lundell Manufacturing. In 1966, the family moved to Le Mars, and he worked as a truck driver for various companies. He loved being on the road and truly enjoyed the people he met. He retired in 1975.
Orren was an avid bowler and continued to bowl until four years ago. He spent many nights and weekends watching baseball games, his favorite team being the Chicago Cubs. In retirement, he worked in carpentry and wood craft and became an expert with crossword puzzles.
He will be greatly missed by his daughter, and her husband, a sister, two sister-in-laws, four grandchildren, his six great-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona; and a sister, Lois Treinen.
