Chester Lee"Coach" Gayheart, 83, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Alice Rose Toney Gayheart, died Saturday morning, September 12, 2015, at Spanish Oaks Retreat.

Born in Logan, West Virginia, he was a son of the late William Gayheart and Hannah Arnosky Gayheart.

Mr. Gayheart attended Marshall College on a football scholarship. After college, he served in the United States Army. Following his discharge from the Army, he entered Morris Harvey College, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and served as a teacher and coach at Omar Junior High School and Boone County High School, both in West Virginia, Effinger High School in Virginia, and Savannah High School in Savannah. Mr. Gayheart was a beloved coach at Savannah High School, where he was selected as one of the Georgia High School North-South All Star Football coaches. He also served as the Athletic Director for three years. While coaching, he received a Master’s Degree in Social Studies and Administration/Supervision.
