This home is on the farm of W. E. Heflin (1949) on Howard Creek three miles
south of Winchester on the east side of the Boonesboro Pike and 3/4 mile from
the pike. The Nathaniel Haggard Cemetery was located 200 yards northwest of the
house, field stone markers were gone so only a pasture was left.
BARTLETT HAGGARD HOME (1764-1846) is 1/4 mile north of his father's place.
In 1949 it was owned by Wheeler Haggard, son of James. The Bartlett Haggard
Cemetery is to the right of the house and within sight, enclosed by a stone

Many years ago Clinton Haggard sent me some pages from the book, "History of the Haggard Family in England and America" published in Bloomington, Ill in 1899-Edmund Haggard, the second son of the first Haggard that came to America, was born about 1725 and maried a lady of Welsh decent named Rice. ........
This is the only record that I have seen that gives her name as Rice. No place have I found her given name as Hannah. I believe that it was Mary.
[From Caswell Co NC deeds *, we now know it was Mary Rice; the second marriage was to Hannah Rymal]

NATHANIEL HAGGARD was born on 21 Nov 1723 in OVERWHARTON, STAFFORD, VA. He died on 21 Aug 1806 in WINCHESTER, CLARK, KY. He has reference number H11A. NATHANIEL HAGGARD, DAR #439771, lived in Charlottesville, Albemarle County,
VA, during the Revolutionary War, and was a delegate to the Virginia House of
Burgesses from Albemarle County, VA, when he signed the "Virginia Declaration
of Independence" on 21 April 1779 (the original preserved in the Virginia
Historical Society, Richmond, VA, the year Thomas Jefferson was elected
Governor of Virginia.
NATHANIEL HAGGARD HOME: The original room built by Nathaniel Haggard, Sr.,
in 1786, of hewn cherry and ash logs was still standing in good repair in 1949
when pictures were taken by William A. Fitzgerald. More rooms had been added.
This home is on the farm of W. E. Heflin (1949) on Howard Creek three miles
south of Winchester on the east side of the Boonesboro Pike and 3/4 mile from
the pike. The Nathaniel Haggard Cemetery was located 200 yards northwest of the
house, field stone markers were gone so only a pasture was left.
BARTLETT HAGGARD HOME (1764-1846) is 1/4 mile north of his father's place.
In 1949 it was owned by Wheeler Haggard, son of James. The Bartlett Haggard
Cemetery is to the right of the house and within sight, enclosed by a stone
wall. Parents: JAMES HAGGARD and ELIZABETH II GENTRY.
He was married to MARY HAZELRIGG about 1743 in ALBEMARLE, VA. Children were: HENRY HAGGARD, MARTIN HAGGARD.
