LAND GRANT RECORDS:
In recent research, I found a Northern Neck land grant for Jacob Shiverdeker in Frederick County, Virginia for May 13, 1771. I noticed in the online THE KANAWHA FAMILY TREE PROJECT OCTOBER 07, 2004, Jacob as named as the father of the Michael Shiverdecker who was born in about 1762 in Frederick County, VA. Since not many Shiverdeckers are found in early records, this may be the right Jacob Shiverdecker.
Below are records of land grants issued by the Virginia Land Office (from Archives in Virginia):
On May 13, 1771, Jacob Shiverdeker (grantee) in Frederick County, Northern Neck Grants--120 3/4 acres.

Sterling Price Alderman
Sterling Price Alderman was a native of Collins county, Texas, where he was born in 1862. He was the third child of a family of seven, born to James Madison Alderman and Sarah Jane Kinder.
His father was a rancher and farmer, originally from Virginia, from where he moved to Ohio and there to Missouri before settling in Brownsville, Nebraska in 1854. After living here for a time he moved to Texas, later to Kansas City, Missouri, and then returned to Brownsville, a small town in Nemaha County, Nebraska.
Sterling Price was reared and educated in Brownsville. At the age of 18, he started out for himself and for 14 years was engaged in railroad work on the Burlington, Missouri railroad and the Northwestern (later called Chicago, Northwestern which ran from Sioux city, Iowa through the northern part of Nebraska) being employed as an operator and station agent.
Beginning in 1880 he was stationed at Holdrege, Dorchester, Plattsmouth, LaPlatte, Oreopolis Junction for short periods and during 1887-89 he was on duty at Johnson, Nemaha County, Nebraska followed by short assignments at Saxonville, Ashton, Hat Creek, St. Paul and Palmer.
He was a bill clerk for Wells Fargo Express Company at the Burlington and Missouri depot at Omaha. Retuning to railroad work he served a short time at Scribner and between the years of 1890-94 he was station agent at Newport, Nebraska.
The exportation of wild hay came as a result of a telegram from the east to Mr. Alderman at Newport, inquiring as to the possibility of buying wild hay. Price went to see Thomas McCune about cutting his wild hay. Native hay grown in the sandhills was of excellent quality, mostly of blue stem variety.
The principal hay producing area was located in Rock and Holt counties. Very little hay was cut west of Bassett.
In the later years, Price quit the railroad and established a general merchandise business, “S. Alderman Company” which he operated for two years. Then disposing of this business, he went into the hay business. He remained there until 1899 when he moved to Bassett and opened up the same kind of business, continuing this until 1900.
He then went into the hardware and supply business in partnership with E. L. Myers in the Bassett Hardware and Supply company. They had a large trade from the start and had developed an extensive enterprise at the time he disposed of it in 1907.
In that year, Mr. Alderman built a large hay shed and engaged exclusively in that line of work, some years shipping as high as a thousand cars of hay.
In 1907, the “Nebraska Gazeteer” stated that Newport had the unique distinction of being the largest wild hay shipping point in Nebraska and one of the largest in the world.
Mr. Alderman took an active part in county politics and was a Democrat. He served on the town board, was an Odd Fellow, Modern Workman and formerly a member of Pythian Lodge.
Sterling Price married Edith Morrison, a daughter of William F. and Elizabeth Jones Morrison at Ft. Madison, Iowa, May 15, 1887. Her parents were old settlers at Plattsmouth, Nebraska, coming there in 1865 before any railroads reached that point. Mr. Morrison was schoolteacher and later engaged in the meat business at Plattsmouth.
Mr. And Mrs. Alderman had six children: Gertrude, Charles, Ruth, Ralph, Esther and Thelma.
The couple retired to Long Pine and Ruth lived and ran the boarding house and café for railroad men.
Sterling Price loved to fish Pine creek and kept the restaurant supplied with 24-25 inch trout.
Sterling Price and Edith are both buried in the Bassett cemetery.

"James Russell Alderman was born Jan. 1, 1891 at Northville, S. D., the fourth child of the10 children born to Wm. Henry and Anna Rosailee Peterson Alderman. At the age of three Jim moved with his family from South Dakota to Newport, where he attend elementary school.
After his schooling he worked with his father, uncles, nephews, brothers and cousins in all phases of the haying business
In 1917, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army and took his training at Camp Dodge, IA. He served a short time overseas in France and was discharged as a private Feb 28. 1919 (Of interest was the United States government contracted for hay to be shipped to France to feed horses and mules and each bale had to be tagged as having been inspected to meet U.S. quality standards, (sic) quantities of "War Time" hay was (sic) shipped from Newport).
On July 20, 1920 al Bassett, James was united in marriage to Martha Elizabeth Brown, daughter of James and Mary Alice Brown of Mariaville. To this union two children were born Evelyn Mae and Lloyd James.
Jim and Mattie spent most of their married life around Newport and in 1931 they took over the ice cream parlor from their nieces. Inez and Laura Thompson. They served hand cranked ice cream, coffee, confections and pop.
A short time later converting the parlor to a cafe and then in 1933 after the repeal of prohibition, Jim was issued the ninth license for beer in the state of Nebraska. They ran this business until 1936 when they sold to Bill and Charlie Kopp.
From 1940-1945 Jim worked at Climax company in the Molydenum (sic ) mine, helped build the munition (sic) depot at Igloo. S. D., Kearney air base, Sutton air base, Offutt field in Omaha, and the air base at Prince Rupert. Canada.
Upon his return home he resumed baling and hauling hay until he was 75 years old.
Martha (Mattie) was born at Bonesteel, S.D., March 28, 1895 in the same year the Brown family moved to Mariaville, where she attended school.
Pleasant memories of her school days and schoolhood (sic) chums at the Mariaville school remained with her all her life. She enjoyed feeding chickens, gathering eggs, milking cows, cooking. canning, baking bread, sewing and crocheting. She was a loving mother and grandmother. The welfare of her entire family was always uppermost in her mind.
Jim and Mattie were married 54 years.
Jim died at Ainsworth in I974 and Mattie in 1975, also at Ainsworth. Both were laid to rest at Newport."

The following obituary was written by Howard King, Mary's son:
"Mary Emma Robbins was born on a farm, near Letts, Decatur Co., Indiana, Jan 5, 1863. Passed away April 25th 1934. Aged 71 years 3 mo. 20 days. She was the youngest of 7 children of Johnathan & Margaret Robbins. All the other children have preceeded (sic) her in death. She leaves a husband, 2 sons & their wives, and 8 grandchildren to cherish her memory. She was the first to break this family circle.
She received training in the schools of her time, and attended the old "Academy" at Hope, Ind. in preparation for teaching. After teaching 3 years, on October 7-1883 she married Heaton H. King who was also a teacher. His work took them to Hope, Indiana and Frankton, Ind. The family also resided for a time at Austin, Ind. Mother united with the Methodist church in her youth, still maintaining membership at Hope. She was active in all church work and made her deep religious beliefs a part of her daily life and acts. In her more than 50 years of marriage she was a true "helpmate". Quiet and self-effacing - deeply and broadly read, her knowledge of current affairs - local - state - national - secular or religious, was wide. Her judgements (sic) and opinions usually were confirmed by actual results. Truely (sic), she "lived in a house by the side of the road" where all were welcome, and in leaving always took with them something for their material or spiritual betterment and comfort. Her last illness was short - the end came quickly and peacefully."
