Name & the following hand-written obituary of Jessie Willard Shiverdecker from family papers:
Arlene Arledge Gregory:
Jessie Willard, son of C.C. and Della Shiverdecker was born March 24, 1918, near New Paris, Ohio, and departed this life Jan. 16, 1923 near West Alexandria, Ohio. Aged 4 yrs. 9 mo. and 22 days. He leaves to mourn his death, Father, Mother, three sisters: Imo, Alice, and Lucille; four brothers: Charley, Earl, William, and Herbert, One Grand-mother, two Grand-fathers, and many other relatives and friends, Three sisters having preceded him to the Spirit World.
He was sick but 48 hours with membranous croup, which caused his death.
Little Jessie was exceptionally bright and possessed a notable memory. He at once won the love and concern of those with whom he came in contact. All was done for him that loving hands could do. But the Death Angel came and took him home.

He saw a hand we could not see,
Which beckoned him away.
He heard a voice we could not hear,
Which would not let him stay.
These ashes few, this little dust,
Our Father's care shall keep,
Till the last Angel rise and break
The long and peaceful sleep.

1095. HARRY5 CLAYTON STOCKTON, third child of James C. and Catherine Stockton, was born at Round Grove, White County, Indiana, Feb. 16, 1872. He grew up there and lived with his parents until Dec. 5, 1894, when he was married to JENNIE MAY HOUGLAND, of Octagon, Ind., who was born Aug. 29, 1874. In March, 1896, he moved to near Monticello, in White County, where they resided for two years when they removed to Tippecanoe County where they lived until Aug., 1899, when on account of his wife's failing health they moved to Pueblo, Colorado. On April 1, 1900, his wife passed out of this life into the life beyond. Two daughters had been born to them. He then returned with his motherless children to his boyhood home and lived there until Feb. 15, 1906, when he was married to ANNA ELIZA TAM, who was born at Burnettsville, Ind., May 20, 1886. Five children have been born to this union. Crossing the Bar
Sunset and evening star,
And one dear call For me,
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea.
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full For sound and foam, When that which drew From out
the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For tho' from out our bourne of time and place
The flood may bear me Far,
I hope to see my Pilot Face to face When I have crossed the bar.
Alfred Tennyson

"Richard Brown d. Aug. 30, 1900. Lived in Polk and Holt counties, MO, and in
1854 co-founded Brownville in Nebraska Territory. Slave owner. Wanted new
settlers in Nebraska to vote for slavery when voting eventually for
statehood. Left Brownville in 1864, probably discouraged about the prospects
for slavery in a state that sent several regiments to be slaughtered for the
Union cause, and landed with in-laws in Collin County, Texas (Plano). This
is according to a Nebraska history written in the 1880s (Wm. Cutler. "Nemaha
County," History of Nebraska, 1882. CHICAGO: THE WESTERN HISTORICAL COMPANY,
Co., A. T. ANDREAS, Proprietor.) The same book, citing ex-Gov. Furnas, says
that Brown, although an ardent advocate of slavery, was run out of Texas
because the locals associated his name and origin (Brownville is not too far
from Ottawatomie, Kansas) with the abolitionist John Brown. He moved to
Kansas City, then to a ranch outside Ferndale, in Humboldt County, CA. In
1898 he and Lemina moved again, this time to Healdsburg to be with a
daughter. In Healdsburg CA. Kicked by a horse, died in the evening. Born
in White County, Tenn., Aug. 4, 1822. M. Lemina 14 Nov. 1842 in Polk
County, MO. Lemina died in 1909 in California. Both are buried in the Oak
Mound Cemetery in Healdsburg, CA, with their notorious daughter, Cordelia
Botkin."

The following text accompanies a photo of the home of George "Addison" Phillips and Mary Jane Spear Phillips. From John Phillips: "George 'Addison' Phillips and Mary Jane Spear Phillips' cabin was located on Quick's Creek about halfway between Deputy and Crothersville, Indiana. Their eldest son James Wendell "Welly" Phillips, who was born in the cabin on August 11, 1873, said that the home was 15 by 20 feet and had a dirt floor. There was a small lean-to kitchen along one wall. The bride's father, Jim Spear, provided the cabin, which was on his property. George "Addison" Phillips and Mary Jane Spear Phillips' lived there two years."
Naomi Keith Sexton, librarian and newsletter editor of the Scott County Genealogical Society Inc., Scott County, Indiana, sent the photo and information to John Phillips. (The Scott County Genealogical Society, Inc. is located at 1050 S. Main St, Box 23, Scottsburg, IN 47170-0023.)
The following info was typed on the back of the photo: "This ONE room cabin in Scott county, Indiana. Father and Mother were married Oc 10 th 1872 and went to house keeping here and lived here TWO YEARS I was bo n [sic] in the CABIN Aug 11 th 1873"
(Kathryn Sidensticker purchased this photo at an auction in Missouri, then donated it to the Scott County Genealogical Society, Inc., Scott County, Indiana.) (SCGSI Website is FITTING THE PIECES TOGETHER at http://www.angelfire.com/in4/scottcounty/Welcome.html )
