"Robert Blunt, Former Scott Auditor, Is Dead

Robert W. Blunt, widely-known Scott County teacher, public official, and banker, died last Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the home of his son, Virgil Blunt, Rural Route 1, Austin. He was 88 and had been in declining health since undergoing major surgery in Indianapolis last June.

The funeral was conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Stewart Memorial Home, with Rev. M. R. Wertenberger officiating. Burial was in the Scottsburg cemetery.

Robert Blunt was a native Scott Countian, son of John W. Blunt and Margaret Follick Blunt, and until recent years had spent all his life in the county.

He taught school in Jennings Township for about twenty years and later was a rural mail carrier. Entering county politics he was elected to two consecutive terms as County Ausitor, and later served as a deputy or advisor the the county auditors.

He then joined the Scott County State Bank as Cashier, and served in that capacity for fifteen years. It was during this time that he received severe head injuries when clubbed by a hold-up man he was attempting to disarm inside the bank in June of 1932. A religious man, member of the Scottsburg Christian Church, which he served as an elder, an avid follower of sports, the Scottsburg high school Warriors basketball teams, and a man of sterling character, he was admired and respected by all who knew him.

He was a member of the Scottsburg I.O.O.F. lodge.

A few years ago, after the death of his wife, he moved to Indianapolis, where he had lived until recent months.

Surviving in addition to the son, (SURVIVOR OMITTED), are three daughters, (SURVIVORS OMITTED), 9 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren."
