Most of the information that concerns the Coatney family, especially information concerning the families related to the marriage of Archibald Coatney and Mary McIntosh, including names, dates, places, census reports, documents, photos, and stories, is from the Don Coatney Archives.
Don Coatney: "My father Albert Edison Coatney was born in 1902 and in his writing has referred to William J. Johnson as "Buffalo Bill" Johnson. In 1888 William J. Johnson along with his wife Mary Eveline Townsend Morgan Johnson and my Grandfather Benjamin Harrison Coatney with his wife Hattie Magnolia Morgan and their two young sons moved from Indiana to Arkansas living in Perla, Malvern, Hot Springs and possibly other areas. Soon a couple of my Grandfather's brothers, Charles Edward Coatney and George Combe Coatney, joined them there. They stayed until 1895 (leaving in somewhat of a hurry as Benjamin had heard the rumor that the constable was after him for committing the crime of taking pictures for profit on a Sunday). They moved to Indianapolis, but I am not sure if the Johnson's came with them."

Emil Porter (1877-1888) does not appear in these censuses. Margaret Lillian "Marnie" Porter has Emil Porter listed as a child of John Armstrong Porter and Nancy Toney Porter. All the children are listed chronologically, except Emil whose name is listed last which makes me wonder if the dates should have read March 26, 1888- September 1888.

Flora MacDonald appears in several photos taken on the MacDonell Plantation in Lake Arthur, LA. She was was born Dec. 6, 1903 and died Sept. 1981. As an adult, she lived in AZ and CA. She died in CA. I found two intimate letters (dated 1941) written by her to her aunt or great-aunt Kate (Catherine Anne "Katie" MacDonell Clark) and Gen (Genevieve Elizabeth "Gen" Clark McLane), probably her cousin. Flora was staying at MacDonell Plantation in Lake Arthur, LA, at the time. I believe she was an unmarried daughter or grand-daughter of one of John "Rice King" MacDonell and Catherine Anne "Katie" MacDonell Clark’s brothers (Alexander Angus, Daniel, Donald Archibald, Archibald Angus). In her letters, Flora mentions Ottumwa, IA, and Aunt "Lizzie" and Cousin Bella. We would appreciate any help identifying this individual. | McDonald, Flora (I8323)
