Amy Williams:
ID: I2638
Name: Jonathan ROBBINS
Sex: M
Birth: 7 Oct 1818 in Henry County, KY
Death: 26 Jun 1902 in Decatur County, IN
Note:
When Jonathan Robbins was young he worked for Nathaniel and Jacob Robbins in Decatur County, Indiana. When he was working for Jacob Robbins, he often drove hogs to market in Madison and Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Jonathan met Margaret Spilman at Jacob Robbins; Jacob had married Margaret Spilman's sister, Sarah. They were married in 1838 and lived for about a year with Jacob and Sarah Robbins until they bought 60 acres just east pf Pinhook and built a log house. In 1860, they built a new, two story house.

Jonathan was a "leader" for forty years at Burks Chapel Methodist Church. The church was organized in 1832 in a schoolhouse near the home of Jacob Robbins.

Margaret (Spilman) Robbins died on Dec 31, 1899 and was buried at Burks Chapel Cemetery. Jonathan died of a heart attack while visiting his son, William F. Robbins, on June 26, 1903. He is also buried in the Burks Chapel Cemetery.

THE HISTORY OF THE ROBBINS FAMILY document tells that Jonathan did not live with the family, but worked for Uncle Nattie and Cousin Jake. William F. Robbins heard Jonathan tell of visiting Indiana before the move. He was about 16 at the time and made the trip on foot, helping the Indiana relatives harvest corn crop for which he was paid in silver and carried it back to Kentucky in his pocket. He said that it almost wore a hole in his legs as well as his pocket.

After Jonathan began working for Jake Robbins who was a second cousin and also a brother-in-law, he often made trips to Madison and Lawrenceburg, IN with a large drove of hogs. The hogs were raised on the abundant corn crops which grew in the creek bottoms. The men would start for market with several hundred, taking along wagons of corn to feed along the way. As the wagons became empty they were used to haul the crippled and tired hogs on their way. On the return he would haul back provisions for the family and neighbors.

Jonathan is buried in Burks Chapel Cemetery on the slope of the hill back of the building where his father George is buried. Standing beside the granite block which marks their resting place you can see the fields where they planted and harvested for more than half a century. You can see the site of the old homestead. In 1915, the house where they were married (Jonathan and Nancy Pruitt) was still standing. Looking to the south from the cemetery you can see their old home which they built.

Jonathan was an (e)arly settler in the area which is located ten miles south of Greensburg and four miles northeast of Westport. After the flourishing towns of Westport and Millhousen sprang up the town of New Richmond declined in importance and was called PinHook.

Superintendent of Schools for many years, retiring to Lafayette, Tippecanoe, IN.

B. Quick of Madison Co, IN conveys "The West half (1/2) of Lots number fifty eight & fifty nine (58 & 59) John Quick's
Third Addition to the Town of Frankton."
Heaton Henry King and his family are listed in the 1900 Federal Census for Frankton, Madison Co, IN. Heaton is 40 years old
and his occupation is merchant. He owns his home, free of mortgage. He and Mary have been married 17 years. and have 2

Henry died at the Knights of Pythias Home in Lafayette, an organization to which he belonged for 52 years. His obituary,
written by his son Howard King, was read at the funeral by Harvey Walker, Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Pythias, reads:
"Heaton H. King, son of James and Sarah King (sic), was born near Elwood, Indiana, September 17th, 1859. Passed to his
immortal crowning, at LaFayette, Indiana, November 24th, 1937. Age 78 years, 2 mo. and 7 days. He was one of eight
children, six of whom have preceeded him to the spirit world.
His father a Union Soldier, died during the Civil War, resulting in hardships beyond description which caused him to be
bound out, in his tender years to a local physician. There along with his work, he applied himself in securing an education, that
permitted him to teach both in the grade and high schools, which vocation he followed for 19 years, and was principle of the
schools at Letts, Hope, and Frankton. He was the first in the state to teach shorthand, and typing as a part of the course of
instruction. Late, he was honorably connected with the banking and business world. He traveled extensively in the interests of
Education and Fraternalism.
October 7th, 1883, he was happily married to Miss Mary Emma Robbins of Decatur County, Indiana. To this happy and
congenial union, two sons were born. The comforts of home was his first duty, and for fifty years his life was filled with the
companionship of a faithful wife. She preceeded him in death, April 25th, 1934. Since then, he has spent much of his time
happy in the excellent home of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Stoker, at LaFayette, Indiana.
Fifty two years ago he became a member of the Knights of Pythias order. During this half century of faithful service, in
which he gave his best in uprooting the thorns and planting roses in their stead in the lives of thousands of men, his sole delight
was bringing young men into the order and clothing them with the golden spurs the Knighthood wears. By his devoted practise
(sic) of Pythian Fraternity, multiplied hundreds of men have been added to the untarnished banner of Friendship, Charity, and
Benevolence. His has been a tumultuous life, filled with hardship and many disappointments, yet he never complained. He
carried to the end, a smile for all he met. He never lost sight of the fact that all things work together for good to them that love
the Lord. He believed, the sower reaped the harvest of seed sown. His harvest is the complete confidence of each who knew
him, for to know him was to love him. His reward is the unquestioned love of thousands of men from the four quarters of the
state. In his closing hours of sickness he told those about him his end was near and he was ready to meet the Supreme
Chancellor, in peace.
He leaves to remember, his sacrifice for them; one brother, two sons, two daughters-in-law, eight grand children, and
thousands of trusted friends and fraternal brothers.
God knows the way, He holds the key
He guides us with unerring hand,
Sometime with tearless eyes, we'll see,
And then, up there, we'll understand."

Karen E. Herrera:
Donna Forney Clark:
James C. Cockerill (1846-1921) immigrated into Sarpy, NE, USA in 1871. He was followed by three brothers in 1872: George Cockerill (b. 1852); William Cockerill (b. 1844); & John "Joseph" Cockerill (1842-1918) & Catherine Elizabeth Hunt Cockerill (1849-1930) & their infant son Joseph James Cockerill (1871-1955). Karen E. Herrera clarified the following info: With them would have been the 4 year old daughter of John "Joseph" Cockerill, (1842-1918), and Elizabeth Fry Cockerill (about 1847- about 1867). This daughter was Elizabeth Ann [Elizabeth Ann "Anna" Cockerill, 1867-1925].

Donna Forney Clark:
In the reference that follows this one, I couldn't place the child [age 4 in 1872] who is listed as either a child of John "Joseph" Cockerill (1842-1918) or of James C. Cockerill (1846-1921). Karen E. Herrera cleared up this mystery: "If you look at the actual record [that is mentioned below], it lists a 4 year old child with Catherine Elizabeth Hunt Cockerill (1849-1930] with the name Jos by it. Since the name or sex of the child is not listed, I think Jos refers to the father [John "Joseph" Cockerill, 1842-1918]. I think the child is Elizabeth Ann [Elizabeth Ann "Anna" Cockerill, 1867-1925]. She would have been 4 years old at the time. Also listed is an infant with Joseph that also says Jos beside the infant. I think Jos again refers to the father's name [John "Joseph" Cockerill, 1842-1918] and that the infant is of course Joseph James Cockerill (1871-1955)."

1095. HARRY5 CLAYTON STOCKTON, third child of James C. and Catherine Stockton, was born at Round Grove, White County, Indiana, Feb. 16, 1872. He grew up there and lived with his parents until Dec. 5, 1894, when he was married to JENNIE MAY HOUGLAND, of Octagon, Ind., who was born Aug. 29, 1874. In March, 1896, he moved to near Monticello, in White County, where they resided for two years when they removed to Tippecanoe County where they lived until Aug., 1899, when on account of his wife's failing health they moved to Pueblo, Colorado. On April 1, 1900, his wife passed out of this life into the life beyond. Two daughters had been born to them. He then returned with his motherless children to his boyhood home and lived there until Feb. 15, 1906, when he was married to ANNA ELIZA TAM, who was born at Burnettsville, Ind., May 20, 1886. 1101. FORREST5 HENRY STOCKTON, ninth child of James C. and Catherine (Miller) Stockton, was born Jan. 20, 1882, at Round Grove, Ind. He grew up on the farm, and graduated from the high school at Monticello, Ind., in 1904. He attended Purdue University for one year. He then taught school for a year. He was married Aug. 20, 1906, to MARGARET BENNETT. In the year 1906 he and his brother Emmett bought the Seeger Transfer Company, in Lafayette, and run it until the year 1914, when they sold out both their transfer and livery stock. Mr. and Mrs. Stockton and their child moved to Ralls, Texas, where they lived for one year. In 1916 they moved to Chico, Texas, where they lived on a ranch of 1,400 acres where he engaged in the buying and selling of stock and the grazing of a large number of cattle. On the 24th day of October, 1918, Mrs. Stockton died of the "flu", having born him two children. He then returned to Lafayette, Ind. On Oct. 28, 1918, he repurchased the Seeger Transfer Company, and is still the owner of the property. On Aug. 20, 1919, he was united in marriage to Mrs. OPAL HARRIS. She is an excellent woman and was the mother of one child by her former marriage to S. E. Harris. They own a beautiful home at 620 South Tenth Street, and are active members of the First Christian Church of that city. Politically they are Democrats. The author gratefully acknowledges valuable help in obtaining information from Mr. Stockton as to members of the Stockton family. Children (by first marriage):
1546. Dean Bennett Stockton, b. Apr. 24, 1909. Student in
Lafayette high school (Jefferson).
1547. Betty Morris Stockton, b. July 2, 1917, at Chico, Texas.
