1. From the Allen County Museum Library, Allen County, OH:
According to records in the Allen County Museum Library, Joseph Belch was buried in Cairo West, also know as West Union Cemetery, Allen Co., OH. His birth date is listed as July 28, 1813, and his date of death as Dec. 23, 1894. His wife Rebecca Belch is also buried there. Her birth date is listed as Jan. 11, 1817. Her date of death is Aug. 16, 1893. Two other Belchs are buried there: Joseph Belch, b. Jan. 28, 1856-March 4, 1893, and J.A. Belch b.Sept. 1, 1847- 1865, dying in Nashville, G.A.R.Company A of the 183th OVI.
2. From Richard Hughes Belch's family Bible that had Amos Belch's obituary enclosed in it: Amos Belch was born July 24, 1852, near New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas Co., OH. Later when Amos was nine years old, his family moved to Allen City, OH, near West Cairo, OH, . His parents are listed as Joseph Belch and Rebecca Reigle Belch.
3. From a Columbus Grove Telephone Co. booklet written by Peter D. Franklin and owned by Richard Hughes Belch: The Belch family endorsed the Columbus Grove Telephone Co, of which J. Earl Belch, Amos' grandson, was president. The Belch family both ran this company and owned a majority share of it for many years. The booklet gives a brief history of Amos Belch's life, stating that Amos was born in Warren Township, Tuscarawas Cty--July 24, 1852, listing his parents as Joseph and Rebecca Alford Belch. They moved to Sugar Creek Township in Allen Co., OH. Amos moved to West Cairo to teach, and the rest of his family later moved there also. Joseph and Rebecca are buried in the cemetary in West Cairo.
4. From the Hayes Presidential Center's services: Amos' death certificate online lists only his parents' places of birth as Ohio.
5. Amos Belch resided in Columbus Grove, OH. His son was Dewey Belch, born in either 1987 or 1900, May 30 or May 31. Our family believes his date of Dewey Belch's birth was May 31, probably 1900. He died in March, 1972.
