Burnell A. Cease
December 5, 1927 - March 26, 2010
Burnell A. Cease, 82, of Biglerville, entered into God’s eternal care, Friday, March 26, 2010, at Gettysburg Hospital. Born December 5, 1927, in Orrtanna, he was the son of the late Byron and Lovell (Herring) Cease.
Burnell was the loving husband of Barbara E. (Hurn) Cease whom he married October 26, 1996.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 41 years, Helen E. (Smith) Cease.
He worked most of his life as a fruit farmer at Garretson’s Orchard as well as several other orchards throughout Upper Adams County. He also worked for the State Highway Department, York Air Conditioning, and Lee Metals in Littlestown.
Burnell was a United States Army veteran and a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Gettysburg, the Biglerville American Legion Post 262, Bonneauville Catholic War Veterans, and AARP.
He was an avid fly fisherman and also enjoyed hunting and in his earlier days bowling.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, Burnell leaves behind eight children, (SURVIVORS' NAMES OMITTED); seven step children, (SURVIVORS' NAMES OMITTED); 9 grandchildren; 19 step grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; one step great grandchild; his sisters (SURVIVORS NAMES OMITTED).
His grandson, (SURVIVOR'S NAME OMITTED) is serving with the U.S. Marines and is currently stationed in Afghanistan.
A service to remember and celebrate the life of Burnell will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 66 E. Hanover Street, Bonneauville, with his Pastor, Father Jonathan Sawicki as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Catholic War Veterans Honor Guard. Viewings and times to share memories will be held from 4 ??“ 8:30 PM, concluded with a prayer service, Monday evening, as well as 9 ??“ 10 AM, Tuesday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations in honor of Burnell be made to the American Cancer Society, Adams Unit, P.O. Box 3535, Gettysburg, PA 17325. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.kenworthyfh.com.
