27 June 1812
Deed Book F, page 53
In the name of God Amen! I Samuel Gillaspy of the County of Kanawha and State of Virginia, living through the abundant mercy and goodness of God, though weak in body yet of sound mind and perfect memory, and understanding do constitute this my last will and testament and desire it may be used by all as such.
Imprimus - I most humbly bequeath my soul to God my maker, beseeching his most gracious acceptance of it, through all sufficient merits and meditation of my most compassionate Redeemer Jesus Christ Amen! Imprimus - I give my body to the Earth from whence it was taken, in full assurance of its resurrection from thence at the last day. As for my burial I desire it may be decent, without pomp at the discretion of my dear wife, who I doubt not will manage it with all requisite prudence.
As to my worldly Estate I will and positively order that all my debts be paid. Item - I give to my dear and loving wife and to her assigns forever all my property consisting of Viz: two sorrel mares and wagon & gears and log chain, six head of sheep, seven head of cattle, thirty head of hogs, together with all household and kitchen furniture, and all my plantation tools: four hoes, two axes, and three plows, also the crop now growing. She paying the following legacies Viz: to Theophillus Gillaspy, one shilling, to Peggy Williams, wife of John Williams, one shilling, to Nelly Lain, wife of Lewis Lain, one shilling, to Jean Gillaspy, one shilling, to Betsy Gillaspy, one shilling, to Samuel Gillaspy, one shilling, to Sally Gillaspy, one shilling, to Billy Gillaspy, one shilling, to John Gillaspy, one shilling, all of them my sons and daughters.

Note:
Thomas Gillispie, born about 1709, died 1789, lived in Augusta County in the Colony of Virginia under England - born near Melrose Scotland, Wife, Eleanor. They lived on Stuarts Creek on Cow Pasture River.
Baptisms from Tinkling Spring Church 1740-1749: Elizabeth daughter of Alexander Gillespie Oct. 1746 Martha daughter of Jacob Gillespie April 27, 1749 Mary daughter of Jacob Gillespie April 27, 1749 Margaret daughter of James Gillespie Oct. 4, 1741 Elizabeth daughter of James Gillespie Jan. 16,1743 James son of Matthew Gillespie Sept. 17, 1749 James son of Thomas Gillespie March 18, 1744 William son of Thomas Gillespie October 18, 1747
The baptismal record of Tinkling Springs Church shows Elizabeth, daughter of Alexander Gillispie, baptized in 1746. Elizabeth, wife of Samuel I I doubt, unless his second wife was also named Elizabeth which is very probable. His second wife was much younger than he was. Remember in the census are names of nephews, uncles, etc. who lived in a household and were not children. Names like Samuel are marked Samuel 1, Samuel 2, etc.
