Deed Book F, page 53
In the name of God Amen! I Samuel Gillaspy of the County of Kanawha and State of Virginia, living through the abundant mercy and goodness of God, though weak in body yet of sound mind and perfect memory, and understanding do constitute this my last will and testament and desire it may be used by all as such.
Imprimus - I most humbly bequeath my soul to God my maker, beseeching his most gracious acceptance of it, through all sufficient merits and meditation of my most compassionate Redeemer Jesus Christ Amen! Imprimus - I give my body to the Earth from whence it was taken, in full assurance of its resurrection from thence at the last day. As for my burial I desire it may be decent, without pomp at the discretion of my dear wife, who I doubt not will manage it with all requisite prudence.
As to my worldly Estate I will and positively order that all my debts be paid. Item - I give to my dear and loving wife and to her assigns forever all my property consisting of Viz: two sorrel mares and wagon & gears and log chain, six head of sheep, seven head of cattle, thirty head of hogs, together with all household and kitchen furniture, and all my plantation tools: four hoes, two axes, and three plows, also the crop now growing.
