Lawrence"Larry" Eugene Rowe was the first of four children (Lawrence Eugene,Joyce Marie, Joan Earline, Denton C. Rowe) born to Earl Augustus Rowe and Clara Christopherson of Lake Park, Iowa. He was baptized and attended the Presbyterian Church in Lake Park, Iowa where he grew up and graduated from high school. He married in Washington, D.C. to Ruth Lowe b. Jan 12, 1921 daughter of Ida B. and James F. Lowe.

In Aug. 1942 during WWII, he enlisted in the Navy at age 21 and was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station Chicago, IL for basic training and then on to Purdue University for training as an Electrician's Mate.

Like many young soldiers , Lawrence found love while serving in the military. While at Purdue, he and his buddy walked past a soda fountain where two young, pretty women were seated. Just as they passed a necklace broke and the two young men picked up the beads rolling across the floor, returned them and introduced themselves to the women. Thus began the courtship between Lawrence and Ruth Lowe. When Lawrence was deployed, Ruth moved to Washington, D.C. and was employed by the Department of the Navy . While on leave, he proposed to her in Lafayette Park, across the street from the White House. They were married on November 7, 1944, the same day that President Roosevelt was elected to his 4th term in office.

In 1943 he was deployed on the USS Harry Lee. The ship was involved in the allied invasion of Sicily and had to withstand the Axis air attacks while the troops disembarked. Lawrence was then transferred to the USS Baker , a destroyer escort from 1943-1945. The ship saw action in the Atlantic, most notably receiving a battle star for destroying a German submarine. The 31 German survivors of the submarine were brought to Boston, MA before the USS Baker returned to sea. Back at sea, the ship found itself in a great storm on the North Sea in February 1945 and was heavily damaged. After limping into port in Iceland, the ship was repaired enough so that it could return to New York Navy Yard for extensive repairs.

Following WWII, the family resided briefly in Brooklyn, NY, then in Iowa, where he went to school in Ames, IA and worked in Burlington, IA, and finally in Lafayette Indiana where they raised their four children.

Lawrence later was employed by the National Homes Corporation of Lafayette, Indiana. His hobby was gardening after his retirement.
