      ALICE GAYHEART OBITUARY

      Alice R. Gayheart - SAVANNAH - Alice Rose Toney Gayheart, 82, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of Chester Lee Coach Gayheart, died Friday morning, February 10, 2017, at Spanish Oaks Retreat.

      She was born in Comfort, West Virginia, and was the daughter of the late Frank M.Toney and Orva Honaker Toney.

      Alice graduated from Sherman High School in 1950. She attended school at Marshall Collage and graduated with a B.S. degree in Education with a major in English. Alice taught school in Boone County for 9 years then moved to Savannah. She taught 5th and 6th grades at Pulaski School. Alice continued her education receiving many degrees in Georgia including a Master's Degree in Elementary Education, Reading Specialist from Armstrong. She also earned an Adult Education Degree from The University of Georgia. Alice worked on various committees for the improvement of the local education system in Chatham County. She taught in the Title 1 program at Charles Ellis, and then she was a Teacher-Facilitator at Largo-Tibet School. Alice worked in the Chatham County School System for 31 years.

      She was a loving mother and will be missed by all. After retirement, she enjoyed her family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Chester Gayheart Sr., and her daughter-in-law, Susan Gayheart.

      SURVIVORS OMITTED.

      The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Thursday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue. The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning at the graveside, Mechanics Cemetery in Bloomingrose, West Virginia.
