Prior to this time, she resided at the Provincialate of the Sisters of the Resurrection in Castleton. Sister entered the Sisters of the Resurrection on August 27, 1938 and professed her final vows on August 15, 1945. She celebrated 60 years of religious profession in 2000. She received her B.S. in education from the College of St. Rose in Albany. Sister ministered in the church and community in the apostolate of teaching. Her assignments took her to St. Casimir in Albany, Immaculate Conception in Watervliet, St. Mary in Schenectady, St. Michael in Cohoes, Sacred Heart in Port Chester, St. Joseph in Poughkeepsie, St. Casimir in Yonkers and Maria Regina in Hartsdale. Born in Yonkers, N.Y., Sister Josephine was the daughter of the late John and Mary Tarnowska Pierga. She is predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Michael Pierga, and a sister, Roslie Wyskida. SURVIVORS OMITTED. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2004 at the Sisters of the Resurrection Provincialate Chapel, 35 Boltwood Avenue, Castleton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may call at the chapel on Thursday, April 15 from 2 to 5 p.m. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Castleton. Those desiring may send a remembrance in Sister Josephine's name to the Sisters of the Resurrection Memorial Fund, 35 Boltwood Avenue, Castleton, NY 12033.
