Transcription of Obituaries:
Both of the following obituaries are probably from Morocco (IN) Courier:
Benjamin Franklin Coatney
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Methodist
Church for Benjamin Coatney, well-known Morocco resident who passed away at
his home here Tuesday.
Benjamin Franklin Coatney, son of Archibald and Katherine Coatney, was born
in Jefferson County, Indiana, November 10, 1851, and passed away August 4,
1931, at his home in Morocco, being 79 years, 8 months, and 15 days old. He
was the last one of a family of 17 brothers and sisters, 13 of them being
half brothers and sisters. On September 5, 1872 he was married to Martha Ann
Burnsides. To this union twelve children were born: Mrs. Wm. Bannister of
Kingman, Henry Nashville, of Winterhaven, Florida, Freeman Ellsworth of
Morocco, Wm. Franklin of Donovan, Ill., Branic Herman of Kentland, Amanda
Melvina of Frankfort, Mrs. Joe Jones, Brook, Mrs. Frank Cox, Hebron,
Benjamin Harrison, Hammond, Mrs. John Wiltfang, Morocco, Mrs. Jess Plott,
deceased, and John Wesley who died in infancy.
In 1883 he united with the Methodist Church at Kentland, and lived a good,
faithful member to the last. In 1891 he moved to Warren County, Indiana. In
1907 he moved to Newton County and spent the rest of his days in and near
Morocco. He was afflicted for the past two years in which he bore his
sufferings with patience. When the children were home he often wanted them
to sing with him. He was a loving father and a good neighbor and will be
missed by all, but our loss is his gain.
Mr. Coatney had the distinction of living to enjoy the fifth generation,
having one great-great-grandchild, 19 great-grandchildren and 32
grandchildren.
Rev. Roush officiated at the services. The remains were interred here.
MARTHA ANN COATNEY
Martha Ann Coatney was born September 29, 1855, in Jennings County and
passed away at her home November, 1940.
Mrs. Coatney was the daughter of James and Martha Burnsides. Of this family
only a brother, John Burnsides, of Scottsburg survives.
Mrs. Coatney was married to Benjamin F. Coatney September 5, 1872. To this
union twelve children were born. Two children preceded the mother in death.
Those living are Mrs. Louisa Bannister of Kingman, Mrs. Amanda Krammes of
Sedalia, Mrs Martha Jones of Brook, Mrs. Mahala Cox (Fox?)
of North Judson, Mrs. Nora Wiltfang of Morocco, Freeman E. Coatney and
William F. Coatney, both of Morocco, Branic H. Coatney of Kingman, Benjamin
Coatney of Mt. Ayr, and Henry N. Coatney.
Besides the immediate family there are 29 grandchildren, 30 great
grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
