Kidd organized and compiled the combined three book edition of Skeels Family History 1720-1980. Part of the earlier books were set in type at South Side Press by Wayne Favinger, aged 15 yrs. |

Thurlo C. HOLCOMB was born April 19, 1894 in Noble County, IN. His parents were Elmer and Leona SKEELS HOLCOMB. He graduated in 1912 from Wolf Lake High School. He attended Indiana Normal, Tri-State College in Angola, North Manchester, Winona College, Gregg of Chicago and Indiana University. In all, Mr. HOLCOMB was in the education field in Indiana for 43 years.
Mr. HOLCOMB began teaching in Allen Twp., Noble Co., IN in 1913. He also taught at Wayne, Green, Elkhart and Washington Twps. in Noble County. He was also principal of North Ward Elementary School in Crown Point, IN and taught at St. Joseph and Howard counties (in IN) and Summit County (in OH). He retired from teaching in 1963.
He married Carrie WHEELER (also a school teacher) and they lived in York Twp., Noble Co. They were active members of the Asbury Methodist Church in Albion....
Mr. HOLCOMB authored and compiled the books Early Schools of Noble County, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 and Ghost Towns of Noble County.

Note: Brumbaugh Leona (Skeels), second of a family of eight, was born April 2, 1875 in Noble Twp, Noble County, Ind. and died at McCray Hospital July 16, 1948. Two brothers, William and Charles of Wolf Lake, survive. In October 1892 she married Elmer Holcomb, who died in 1942. They spent their entire lives in Noble County. Three children were born to this union, Thurlo of near Albion, Fay Switzer of Cromwell, and Jessie, who died in 1917. Other survivors are a grandson, Dr.Robert Switzer, and two great-grandsons of Denver, Colo.; one granddaughter, Rosalyn Meador; and one great-grandson of Hawaii. She became an active member of the Burr Oak and Wolf Lake Baptists Churches early in life. She later transferred her membership to the Albion U. B. Church. Funeral was July 18 from the local Evangelical U.B. Church. Burial, Christian Chapel Cemetery. + 7-?-1948
