CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Clarence G. "Bud" Walter, 83, of Penn Hall Nursing Complex and formerly of 430 Woodstock Road, died Friday, April 25, 2003, at Penn Hall.
Born Nov. 28, 1919, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Clarence C. and Mary E. John Walter.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Charlotte Kent Walter, in 1999.
He was a 1937 graduate of Chambersburg High School and a 1941 graduate of Shippensburg State Teachers College.
He retired in 1975 from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg where he had been a personnel management specialist in the civilian personnel division.
He served for more than three years in the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged in 1946 with the rank of master sergeant.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Chambersburg where he served on the church council and committees, attended Sunday school and sang in the choir.
He played the saxophone in the local bands of Zel Smith, Walt Sheldon, Johnny Knepper, Phil Young, Bill Dayton and the Sounds of Decades. He led his own band while in college.
He was a member of Musician Union Local 770 AF&M of Hagerstown; Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW and BPO Elks 600, all of Chambersburg; the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1063; a past president of Falling Spring Chapter 2840 of the American Association of Retired Persons; and a volunteer of Franklin County Toy Mission.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Walter and Lawrence Walter.
A memorial service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Chambersburg. The Rev. Steven Dorsett will officiate.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Norland Cemetery.
There will be no viewing.
