She had been married before and possibly had a daughter, Luvinia, from that marriage. Kessiah helped Aaron raise the three children from his first marriage, plus they had five more children. Kessiah lived to be in her nineties. In the 1870 Kanawha County West Virginia Census, she was living with her son, John Kelly, and she reported her age as 92. Kessiah was the grandmother of Mary Elizabeth Kelly who married James Johnson.
