Chasteen, Jr.: "...it was at my grandfather's funeral (William Columbus Clark Chasteen 1897-1932) that a doctor in attendance noticed a lump in my grandfather's jaw. (William) Columbus Clark Chasteen has cancer on his death certificate as cause of death, but the immediate cause of death was probably a ruptured spleen from getting hit in the stomach by the brake on a rake after a team went wild and he dropped the reins. My dad (Dorman L. Chasteen, Sr.) and Uncle Keith (Chasteen) were sitting on the tongue of the rake and were likely to get killed had he not stopped the team. The arm of the brake hit him in the stomach." He married Betty Sue Chasteen February 5, 1946, who preceded him in death. Dorman served in the Army, Navy, Marines and was also a Mason.
