Sam T. KAMILOS
Obituary
Sam was born in Lodi and soon moved to Sacramento, where he attended Marshall School and helped at his family's produce stand in the Historical Public Market. He graduated from Sacramento High School and University of the Pacific (then College of the Pacific) in Stockton, where he majored in music, was president of the music fraternity Phi Mu Alpha, and conducted the then-famous 77 Piece Marching Band, for which he also wrote and arranged music. He met (survivor's name omitted) his wife at college and married her while serving in the 10th Division Army Band in Wurzburg, Germany. After they moved to Sacramento in 1958, Sam became a popular music teacher for the Grant school district and produced several musicals at Foothill High School. He played trombone in the Camellia Symphony Orchestra, was a member of Phi Delta Kappa and served as president of the Music Educators National Conference, director of Adult Education, chairman for Golden Empire Music Association, and president of the Sacramento Community Concert Association, bringing marvelous concerts from New York to the Sacramento Community Center Theater. Sam enjoyed his Greek heritage and was president of the American Hellenic Professional Society. A member of SIRs (Sons in Retirement), he served as president and was active in the 9 Hole Golf and Book Club groups. Sam was a sports fan, played golf and tennis, and traveled the world with (survivor's name omitted) his wife. He also became a farmer, managing the family almond orchard from 1978 until his death. Several of his many friends call him " The Renaissance man." (Survivors omitted) A celebration of Sam's life will take place in February. In his memory, please give to the charity of your choice.
