John and Martha Goss Barton [appear] in the 1850 Georgia census ( Cass County, Division 12, p. 188 A):
John Barton, age 19, born in South Carolina. Occupation - farmer.
Martha Barton, age 17, born in Georgia.
Sarah E. Barton, age 1, born in Georgia.
"...in the 1850 census... The family (next door neighbors] listed preceding John Barton is one David and Elizabeth Barton, age 73 and 67 respectively, both born in South Carolina."

"... in the 1860 Georgia census in Gordon County, Oothcalooga township (P.O. Calhoun, p. 6). The make up of the family was this:
John W. Barton, age 30, born in South Carolina. Occupation - farm laborer.
Martha A. Barton, age 30, born in Georgia. Occupation - domestic. [This is probably an census error for Martha A. Barton's age.)
Sarah E. Barton, age 10, born Georgia
Malinda C. Barton, age 7, born Georgia
Sanford H. Barton, age 6, born Georgia
Mary A. Barton, age 3, born Georgia
Martha M. Barton, age 2, born Georgia
Hester A. Barton, age 1/12, born Georgia."

"Sarah [Barton] may have married in Georgia. I cannot find a marriage record for her in Indiana, but the marriage returns of her children give their parents as John Slayton and Sarah Barton and the 1870 [census] shows one such couple living in Tipp. Twp. of Tipp. Co., [IN] Both John and Sarah were born in Georgia and Sarah is listed as being twenty something (last number illegible). All of their children listed were born in Indiana."
