"...sometime last century at the latest, the Bollinger County Shiverdeckers went by the surname Shiverdeck. I knew George, Orville, Ab, and their sister. They had some nickname for their sister which I cannot recall right now. George and Orville were bachelors and lived approximately into their 80s, 5-10 miles from where I grew up. My dad and I helped take care of them prior to their death. My grandparents Claude and Ruth Meador ran the general store in Gipsy, MO for 40+ years. My grandmother was the postmaster, and the post office was in the back of the store. The "Shiverdeck boys", as they were referred to, would be at the store essentially every Saturday. I loved to be there when they were because they told a lot of stories. They both rolled their own cigarettes using Prince Albert, and their house was full of Prince Albert cans. George had done a stint in the Army, I don't believe Ab or Orville had."

GRASSY -- James Abner Shiverdeck, 90, of Grassy, died Nov. 29, 1998 at the family home. He was born April 7, 1908 at Cascade, MO (Wayne County), son the the late Christina Swezzy and James W. "Bud" Shiverdeck. On May 4, 1934 he was united in marriage to Winnie H. Talley and she preceded him in death on February 3, 1997. He was a retired farmer and timber worker and attended the Grassy Friendship General Baptist Church. Survivors include: five sons (NAMES OMITTED); two daughters, (NAME OMITTED) and Ruth Barnes of Grassy; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was 1 son (George Shiverdeck), 4 brothers, 3 sisters, 2 grandsons and 1 great-grandchild. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, December 2, 1998 at the Friendship General Baptist Church at Grassy. Rev. Gene Robbins officiated. Interment followed in the church
cemetery.

GRASSY -- Winnie H. Shiverdeck, 86, of Grassy died Monday, Feb. 3, 1997, at her home. She was born July 10, 1910, near Greenville, daughter of G. L. and Myrtle Pigg Talley. She and Albert Shiverdeck were married May 4, 1934. Shiverdeck attended Friendship General Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband; six sons, two daughters, a sister, 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren (NAMES OMITTED). She was preceded in death by a brother, three sisters, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill made the arrangements. Funeral service was held Thursday at Friendship Church. Burial was in Grassy Community Cemetey.
