HEATHINGTON, DOROTHY ELLEN McDONALD, beloved wife, mother and friend..... Departed this earthly life peacefully on August 6, 2004, exactly 3 months after sharing their 71st wedding anniversary with her loving husband, John. She was born October 12, 1909 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and raised in Germantown, Tennessee. She completed two years of business college and worked as an executive secretary until she came into her life's work of homemaker. During these years she remained actively involved in her community, serving as a member of the Jane Douglas chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was on the board of the Women's Auxiliary to Goodwill Industries wherein she helped formulate the Goodwill Industries Heirloom Fashion Show. She was president of the University Park School PTA; and she was instrumental in starting the Pennywise Investment Club, structured for women who wanted to take charge of personal finances at time when such an idea was very new to modern wives. Later in life she enjoyed the lasting friendships she made in bridge groups and traveling, and in the Book and Author Club and the Mary K. Craig Class. Dorothy is preceded in death by her son, John Allen Heathington, Jr. and by her parents, Joel Ward and Grace Truman McDonald of Memphis, Tennessee.
      (SURVIVORS OMITTED)
Per her wishes, her body was donated to the Willed Body Program of Southwestern Medical Center for medical research. Upon completion of such purpose, she will be cremated and her ashes returned to the earth. Each of us has special memories of this warm and caring friend during her long full life..She was there when Bambi's mother died. Dorothy's family wishes to thank special caregivers, Carl Hampton and Charlene Wyatt, as well as the thoughtful staff of Truett Hospital, Baylor. She asked for no memorial service, but in remembrance of this gracious lady and in celebration of the life she shared with us, family and friends are invited to the family home, 3520 Colgate in University Park, Thursday, August 12, 5-8 PM. Any memorials may be sent to Cal Farley's Boys' Ranch, or to the charity of your choice. To Remember Me By Robert N. Test The day will come when my body will lie upon a white sheet neatly tucked under four corners of a mattress located in a hospital busily occupied with the living and the dying. At a certain moment, a doctor will determine that my brain has ceased to function and that, for all intents and purposes, my life has stopped. When that happens, do not attempt to instill artificial life into my body by the use of a machine. And don't call this my deathbed. Let it be called the Bed of Life, and let my body be taken from it to help others lead fuller lives. Give my sight to the man who has never seen a sunrise, a baby's face or love in the eyes of a woman. Give my heart to a person whose own heart has caused nothing but endless days of pain. Give my blood to the teenager who was pulled from the wreckage of his car, so that he might live to see his grandchildren play. Give my kidneys to one who depends on a machine to exist. Take my bones, every muscle, every fiber and nerve in my body and find a way to make a crippled child walk. Explore every corner of my brain. Take my cells, if necessary, and let them grow so that, someday, a speechless boy will shout at the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear the sound of rain against her window. Burn what is left of me and scatter the ashes to the winds to help the flowers grow. If you must bury something, let it be my faults, my weaknesses and all prejudice against my fellow man. If, by chance, you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you. If you do all I have asked, I will live forever.
